Across all Swiss weather stations the average was 0.6 degrees Celsius, a bit above the last record of 0.4 degrees in January 2007.
Geneva was particularly warm. There the average for the month was 6.2 degrees Celsius, beating the last record of 4.5 degrees in 1936.
A lot of snow fell during the month however much of it was heavy wet snow from the south, which came with high avalanche risk and knee-twisting potential. The heavy precipitation will have raised water levels behind many of Switzerland’s dams, boosting their electricity generating potential.
