Roger Federer has had a painful year. In July, the 35-year-old tennis champion said he would sit out the rest of the 2016 season to recuperate from knee surgery. On 22 August he posted a photo of himself on Twitter training with the comment: “Did some tennis training this week. Feeling great.”
Right now he is missing the US Open, which started on 29 August and ends on 11 September, for the first time in 16 years.

He might be missing the US Open but he has found a way to consol himself: hiking in the Swiss mountains. On social media he posted: “Missing the US Open, but having an amazing time enjoying the Swiss mountains.”

Hopefully the healing powers of Switzerland’s outdoors will have the desired effect so that the world number 4 can grace the world’s best tennis courts again in 2017.
