FILMAR Festival stands out from other film festivals held in Switzerland. It specializes in Latin American films – the global importance of films from this region cannot be overestimated.
The festival will, to be held from 18 November to 4 December in both Geneva, as well as Ferney-Voltaire, St Julien en Genevois, Divonne and Versoix. Moreover, the films are very accessible to all, having sub-titles in both English and French. The copious programme will delight expatriates.
In addition, the film programme has been made especially accessible dividing films into different sections. ‘Coups de Coeur‘ comprises 8 films – recent productions especially selected for their importance by the direction.
‘Immersion‘ features portraits of well-known writers/musicians/artists from the region, amongst whom Pablo Neruda (opening film of the festival on 18 November), and Paulo Coelho (celebrated in this year’s Salon du Livre).
Festival goers can further enjoy another section featuring films from festivals e.g. Aquarius, from this year’s Cannes Film Festival. ‘Art-Images‘ is dedicated this year to Latin American literature; Looking for Borges is a homage to the Argentinian writer, and was filmed in Geneva this year.
Children are not forgotten with the section ‘FILMARcito‘ which enjoys a selection of animated films especially chosen to encourage the youngest aficionados to enjoy a taste of real cinema!
