At around 13:30 several people on the shore noticed he had fallen into the water. Two people, who witnessed the drama, tried to save the man with a canoe.
Unfortunately, despite rescuers getting him ashore, and paramedics flying him to the CHUV hospital by helicopter the man didn’t make it. A Vaud police spokesperson told ATS that he died that evening.
One of the eye witnesses, who spoke to Le News said “The man was on an inflatable board and wasn’t wearing a life jacket.”
Le Matin reported a similar incident, on 3 June 2016, when a 30 year old Brazilian man, on holiday in Switzerland, drowned after falling from a stand up paddle (SUP) board near Lutry.
