Recent changes to Swiss laws regarding animal welfare were not confined to live lobster boiling. Dogs were also considered.

Illegal dog trading in Switzerland will soon be easier to spot. Dog sellers must list their address, the dog’s place of origin and where it grew up, in adverts. And more information will be required for the government’s central dog database.
In addition, all punitive devices that automatically trigger when dogs bark will be banned 1. Current rules allow jets of water or compressed air to be used. From 1 March 2018, these systems will also be banned.
Cutting dogs’ ears and tails is also illegal, with some exceptions, for example if there is a medical reason.
Cats were not overlooked. If kept individually a cat must have daily contact with humans or visual contact with other cats.
