Every year the New York times simplifies life and picks 52 destinations to visit over the course of the year. 2016’s list includes a Swiss destination, which ought to reduce air miles a little for locals attempting the list.
At the top is Mexico city, described as a metropolis that has it all. If this is too far away, the next two, Bordeaux – an ancient wine region that gets a stunning update, and Malta – The Mediterranean on a dime are a lot closer to home.
Further down in position 25 is Vaud. Presented with an alluring photograph of Lavaux’s vinyards, the region is described as “Switzerland’s gracious canton that hugs Lake Geneva, has been known to attract famous people seeking quiet lives, Audrey Hepburn and Charlie Chaplin among them”.

The spring opening of the Chaplin’s World museum in Vevey along the new Aquatis Aquarium and water museum in Lausanne, which opens Easter 2017, are both highlighted.
In 2015 it was the mountainous canton of Valais (41st place) represented Switzerland on the list. 2014 also featured Switzerland with the mountain resort of Andermatt coming in 33rd.
