2014 Gingins Cricket Club Autumn Indoor Tournament
Cricket, that wonderfully eccentric sport beloved by an odd bunch of nations whose only real link is that they were once part of the thankfully defunct British Empire. And now in Switzerland, the sound of leather against willow is ringing out from Zurich to Gingins.
Over the first two weekends of November the Gingins Cricket Club hosted the 2014 Gingins Autumn Tournament for Under 11s and Under 13s. Representing clubs from across the Lake Geneva area, Basel and Zurich, four teams took part in this year’s U11 tournament as well as six U13 teams.
The tournaments were held at the sports hall at the ESEP school in Borex/Crassier, with modified scoring rules (when compared to outdoor cricket). According to Arnold Bucheli, Co-President of Gingins Cricket Club, which hosted the competition, the matches were all played in a great spirit and the competition was at a very high standard. Basel Dragons won the U11s tournament with Gingins coming second place. The U13s was won by Cossonay with Basel Dragons in second place and Zurich Crickets in third.
In the coming weeks, the U15 and U17 tournaments will be held. Please visit the Gingins Cricket Club website for more information. Clubs in the region are all keen to encourage young talent and offer training and an exciting series of matches. Boys and girls are welcome.
