Nearly 140 people across Switzerland die in rail related suicide every year. Around 20 of these occur between Lausanne and Geneva, one of the worst stretches of track in the country.
The seven hot spots will be protected with 5km of two-metre high barriers, forecast to be completed by next spring.
In addition to these hotspots, four barriers will be constructed between Lausanne and Villeneuve.
In 2015, 2.5 times as many people aged under 30 died from suicide as from car accidents in Switzerland.
