The ski-focused airline Powdair, launching in December 2017, recently announced plans to add direct flights between Zurich and Sion.
Starting on 11 December 2017, the airline will offer 21 flights a week between Zurich and Sion, the closest airport to the Swiss resorts of Verbier, Zermatt and Crans Montana.
Flights from Zurich are planned seven days a week. The return cost of the flight, which takes between 45 minutes and an hour, starts at GBP 172.
Fares can also be paid in Swiss francs or euros. It is worth checking the exchange rate before settling on a payment currency. The implied CHF / GBP exchange rate on the company’s website was 1.21, while the market rate was close to 1.25. Given a difference like this, paying in Swiss francs makes good sense, depending on your card’s home currency and the exchange and transaction fees charged by the issuer.
In addition to these flights, the operator will connect London City Airport, London Luton, London Southend, Bristol, Manchester, Antwerp and Southampton to Sion.
Unlike many airlines, there are no additional charges for skis and snowboards. In addition, there is a 10% discount for children 16 and under.
