Snow has arrived in Switzerland, particularly in the west. While not as heavy as 2010 when 29 cm fell in Geneva between 30 November and 2 December, there is still a good dusting a bit above lake level, increasing in depth with altitude.

Many ski resorts have received 20-30 cm of new snow with a few getting an extra 50+ cm. Berfex.com is showing 43 swiss resorts open. It reports some resorts now having more than 1 metre of snow. Glacier 3000 in the west of the country now has 260cm. And nearby resort Villars – Gryon now has 100cm, according to the website.
On Wednesday, Swiss resident Scott Poynton was at the top of the Dole (1,677m), the highest point in the Jura mountain range. This was one of five climbs he organised to inspire men to be healthier. From his photo of part of his team below you can see there is plenty of snow.

Parts of Verbier now have 70 cm, 25 cm of it fresh. The hundreds of Santas predicted to hit the resort’s slopes tomorrow will have plenty to ho ho ho about.
