According to Le Matin, Cathy Maret, a spokesperson for Fedpol, told the news service ATS: ” It is not yet possible to say whether the individuals are linked to Switzerland and if so what the link is.”
The two suspects are now both dead. Mohamed Hychami was shot dead by police in Cambrils and Younes Abouyaaqoub was shot dead by police in an area about 40 km west of Barcelona near the town of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia on Monday after a tip off from a petrol station employee, according to the BBC. Abouyaaqoub had spent four days on the run.
So far eight suspects are dead and four are appearing at the high court in Madrid, reported the BBC.
According to Maret the terrorism threat level remains high in Switzerland.
