To the Swiss, it can seem like every time they turn around they’re being asked to vote on something. But this time it’s more fun than choosing among city council candidates you’ve never heard of.
The online polls are open for the annual Most Beautiful Swiss Village contest. We’re down to 12 finalists, each one shamelessly enchanting, as you’ll see by clicking on any entry’s spot on the map. With a typically Swiss sense of equality, there are three entrants in each of Switzerland’s four language regions. The smallest of the 12 villages has a population of 28, the largest is a booming metropolis of 1531.
And did we mention that every single village is stunningly beautiful?
Voting is open to anyone living in Switzerland, and your vote automatically enters you to win a prize. First prize is the use of a VW Tiguan for a year, which should be plenty of time to visit all 12 contestants in this beauty contest.
Voting ends Aug. 24. Or don’t vote; instead just tour the photos of each entry and start making your travel plans.
Update: the village of Schwellbrunn was voted the most beautiful village in Switzerland in 2017. 50,000 people voted for it.
The video below gives a glimpse of the town.
