On Sunday, at the resort Les Mosses, a 6 year old girl collided with an adolescent of 16.
According to Vaud Police, the two young skiers crashed into each other on a piste at Les Parchets. The accident, which happened at 9:40 am, left the girl seriously injured. A helicopter flew the girl to Inselspital, a hospital in Bern. Sadly, emergency workers failed to resuscitate the young girl and she died on Sunday evening. Mountain emergency services and a team and doctor from REGA worked on resuscitating the young victim.
The girl was from the region Nord vaudois and the adolescent was from Bern.
The circumstances of the accident will be subject to a formal inquiry. Criminal responsibility will be determined by the Juvenile Court, which has opened a case. The investigations are being led by the Police and mountain patrol team at Les Mosses.
Between 2009 and 2013, there were 51,260 alpine skiing accidents in Switzerland, according to the Swiss Office of Accident Prevention. Between 2005 and 2014, between 7% and 8% of skiers were involved in a collision.
