The foehn, a warm wind that blows from the south, lifted Swiss temperatures sharply to close to 25 degrees last Sunday, bringing a taste of summer to western Switzerland.
This warm period will be fleeting. The weather forecast predicts cloud cover from Wednesday and a big drop in temperature, to as low as 5 degrees on Thursday, as a cold front hits the country. Snow is predicted to fall as low as between 700 and 1,000 metres. According to Reto Vögeli of Meteonews, a few snow flakes could land on the Swiss plateau.
The meteorologist said that large temperature movements in April are not unusual. “The situation should improve rapidly. By next weekend it looks like it will be mild again.”
