Some flu-vaccine deliveries to Switzerland are delayed this autumn. RTS reports that about 40% of doses are affected. But the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) says everyone who wants to be vaccinated will be able to do so before the seasonal flu wave begins.

The delays are affecting vaccination schedules. At Unisanté, Efluelda has been available since October 12th for people aged over 75 and those aged over 65 with a prescription for it. Vaccination with Vaxigrip will begin on November 9th.
Two national vaccination weeks will run from November 2nd to 7th and from November 23rd to 28th, offering jabs at participating medical practices and pharmacies.
Flu vaccination is recommended for people aged 65 and over, pregnant women and younger people at greater risk of complications, including those with chronic illnesses or taking drugs that suppress the immune system.
When will flu arrive?
The seasonal flu wave generally begins in the second half of December, according to the FOPH. Vaccination is recommended from mid-October until the wave begins.
Other winter viruses
Respiratory-virus circulation remains low. Geneva University Hospitals’ surveillance update recorded one sample positive for influenza A last week.
Health officials are also monitoring covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus, which can cause serious illness in infants and older people.
Moderna’s combined flu and covid vaccine, mCombriax, has been authorised in the EU for people aged 50 and over. In Switzerland, separate flu and covid vaccinations can be given at the same appointment.
