In 2017 a vertical forest will begin to rise from a building site located in Chavannes in west Lausanne. The tower will rise to a maximum of 117 metres and be covered with trees equivalent to around one hectare of forest. The tower’s designer is Milan-based architect Stefano Boeri.
Already in Milan

Coming soon to Lausanne
On Tuesday, project promoter Bernard Nicod, presented plans for a similar tower in Chavannes-près-Renens in Lausanne. Speaking to 24 Heures he said that the CHF 200 million project is not a high-end luxury development, nor is it social housing. Lausanne’s socialist mayor André Gorgerat added that the local population won’t necessarily be able to afford the apartments. The municipality has never hidden its hopes of attracting new taxpayers to boost its revenue.

The tower will contain 195 apartments ranging from 80 m2 to 160 m2. A restaurant, open to the public, is planned for the top.

Planning approval for this tower is a major milestone for such developments after projects in Bussigny and one called the Taoua in Lausanne both failed in the face of intense opposition.
