According to 24Heures the canton of Vaud has banned fires and barbeques due to high fire risk. In a similar article 20 Minutes reported that fires and barbeques in the cantons of Valais, Basel city, Basel country and Solothurn have also been banned. The bans forbid fires and barbequing in and around forests. The fire risk is largely due to dry grass. Residents and visitors are also reminded to be careful with matches and cigarette buts which should be carefully extinguished and disposed of in rubbish bins. Over the last few weeks Switzerland has experienced record high temperatures with little rain. Frequent wind is increasing the danger of fires spreading rapidly. Valais has the highest risk rating of “very high”.
