After years of stalemate an updated double taxation agreement (DTA) between Switzerland and the United States has been ratified and is now in force.
American and Swiss representatives signed the necessary documents last week.

The new treaty is designed to meet international standards on the exchange of bank information, making it easier to investigate suspected tax evasion.
In addition, there is no longer any distinction between tax evasion and tax fraud, neither for individual nor for group requests.
