To the Swiss, it can seem like every time they turn around they’re being asked to vote on something. But this vote is more fun than choosing a city council candidate.
The online polls are open for the annual Most Beautiful Swiss Village contest, with 12 to choose from, each one shamelessly enchanting, as you’ll see by clicking on any entry’s spot on the map. With a typically Swiss sense of equality, entrants are evenly spread across all of Switzerland’s four language regions. Sonlerto, the smallest of the 12, has no electricity and 35 chalet-fulls of summer population, while the largest is a booming metropolis of 2,680.
And did we mention that every single village is stunningly beautiful?
Voting is open to anyone living in Switzerland, and your vote automatically enters you to win a prize. First prize is the use of a VW Polo for a year, which should be plenty of time to visit all 12 contestants in this beauty contest.
Voting ends 5 August. Or don’t vote; instead just tour the photos of each entry and start making your travel plans.
With 50,000 votes, the village of Schwellbrunn was voted the most beautiful village in Switzerland in 2017. At 972 m above sea level it’s the highest municipality in the canton, offering a view to the north shore of Lake Constance.
