Rather than taking the strong franc lying down, Geneva Tourism has decided to offer 1,000 free hotel nights to draw travelers to the city.
Geneva has done well scooping up travel awards. In 2014 and 2015 the city was crowned Europe’s best weekend city break destination ahead of cities such as Paris, London, Rome, Istanbul, Madrid, Lisbon, Venice and Dublin. While this has helped its image as a tourist destination, rankings putting it among the world’s most expensive cities have not.
The city’s latest promotion entitled: Invited by Geneva, offers 1,000 free beds to tempt visitors. One of the organisers said that winners will be given the best rooms available on the night. The free nights can be taken between 11 July and 12 September 2016.
The promotion website announces that: you and a person of your choice are invited to enjoy a free night in Geneva’s finest hotels, breakfast included, between 11 July and 12 September 2016. The competition is open from 3 to 17 May 2016.
The promotional video below shows they have not overlooked mandarin-speaking Chinese travelers, Swiss German speakers, English speakers, French speakers or Spanish speakers – there is a written invitation in Spanish.
To enter you must live outside of greater Geneva, an area which includes not only Geneva but also areas of France and part of Vaud. If you live in Nyon, bad luck. If you live in Lausanne or Zurich then you can sign up. The greater Geneva region is shown below. According to the website, sharing on Facebook or Twitter immediately after entering, gives you a chance to win a flight to Geneva.
