On Monday 28 December, Geneva lifted the terrorist alert it put in place on 10 December 2015 when foreign intelligence services warned there could be four suspected terrorists with links to Islamic State in the Swiss canton. Geneva’s department of security and economy triggered a level three alert. The maximum is five.

The decision to remove the alert and return to normal was taken after consultation with the cantonal police and federal representatives according to a press release published at 15:00.

The announcement noted that during the period of the alert the police monitored strategic locations 24 hours a day 7 days a week without mentioning the number of police personnel involved or the cost of the operation.
