According to recent statistics, November arrivals increased to 5,691, 941 more than in October 2015. While the number from Eritrea dropped substantially, those from Syria and Afghanistan went up. 70% were from three countries. 2,386 came from Afghanistan, 991 from Syria and 586 from Irak. Continued instability in Afghanistan helps to explain some of the rise. The number of Eritreans arriving dropped by 55% month on month.
The rise in Asylum demands in Switzerland has been muted compared to the rest of Europe according to SEM. The total number for the year to the end of November 2015 was 34,653, higher than the 29,000 estimate announced for the full year. Of the total Asylum requests received 2,365 were processed in October leaving 27,113 files open. Of those processed in October 975 were rejected.
