
Scotland rejects independence
Edinburgh. The electorate in has voted by over 55% against independence making it mathematically impossible for the Yes campaign to win. Edinburgh voted by over 60% against independence, while Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow voted narrowly for independence, however it was not enought to deliver victory to the pro-independence campaign. Turnout in many places has been unprecedented at up to 86%. British Prime minister, David Cameron has congratulated Alastair Darling, leader of the No to independence campaign, for delivering 55% of the vote – some 3% higher than forecast in the polls. Alex Salmond, leader of the Scottish Nationalist Party and the driving force behind the pro-independence campaign has conceded defeat and called for acceptance and unity in the country.
