With around a quarter of the Swiss population being foreign and most Swiss families going on holiday abroad at least once a year it is safe to say that most Swiss residents are airport regulars and seasoned flyers. Today we are sharing some make-up and skin care tips for all the traveling beauties out there.
- Keep that skin hydrated
The recirculating air in airplane cabins draws moisture from wherever it can, including your skin. The result? Dry skin gets even drier and oily skin starts to produce even more oil to compensate for the loss of moisture. That is why it is crucial to pay extra attention to your skin when travelling by plane, especially on long flights. Prep your skin before your flight by using a good deep-moisturizing cream adapted to your skin type and keep a bit of extra cream in your carry-on luggage at all times just in case your skin starts to feel uncomfortably dry and tight while you are still in the air. You could even apply an intensely hydrating mask before boarding and leave it on during the whole flight.
- Don’t forget your lips and hands
Flying does not just dry out your face but it can also wreak havoc on your lips and hands, so always keep a travel-sized tube of hand cream in your bag and invest in a good moisturizing lip balm. Regularly and liberally applying a new coat of hand cream and lip balm will stop the air from sucking all the moisture out of them and will prevent them from drying out. Rich heavy textures are the way to go when flying. The butterier the better!
- Get your beauty sleep
Your sleep quality directly affects the appearance of your skin. A lack of sleep can lead to a dull sallow complexion as well as nasty breakouts, so try to make the most of that transatlantic flight and get as much beauty sleep as you can. True, sleeping on a plane isn’t exactly comfortable, but there are some things that you can do to make your on-board nap time a little more pleasant. Wearing ear plugs and a sleeping mask will drown out noise and light and wrapping yourself in a fluffy blanket will keep you warm and comfortable.
- Bring travel-sized products on board
That moisture-boosting mask and that intensely hydrating eye cream won’t do you any good if they are stuck in cargo hold. You are allowed to bring up to ten 100 ml products on board with you, so it is a good idea to stock up on samples, minis and travel-sized products in the weeks before your flight. Many cosmetics brands are happy to hand out samples and miniature-sized products with the purchase of a new product and you can buy plenty of travel-sized products at just a fraction of the full-size price.
- Keep an emergency kit with you
Ever wonder how those Hollywood stars manage to get off a plane looking all red carpet ready? Traveling first class and having a private jet probably helps, but so does having an emergency kit with you so you can freshen up as soon as you land. Quickly running a brush through your hair, touching up your eyeliner, applying a fresh coat of mascara and changing from that comfy hoodie into a cute top can make a world of difference in how you look.
With these five tips you are all set to fly in style from now on. Ready for liftoff!
