Galaurus, Villette Grand Cru, 2011
Ahh…. something a bit different for a change. If you are getting a bit bored with the classics – then try this. St Laurent (a red variety that has been around for over 400 years and grows well in coolish climates. Galotta (Gamay & Ancellota) and Pinot Noir are the three grape varieties that make up this wine.
Nose – Wild blueberries and blackberries, earthy forest undergrowth type aromas (imagine walking through a dense forest in the early afternoon) and a slight muskiness (not mustiness, mustiness is not good in wine).
Palate – Spicy, peppery, soft subtle tannins, well balanced. A full-bodied, hearty, soul warming wine.
Mood match – The ideal setting – serene and seductive in front of a blazing open fire with the one you love.
Food match –Fricassée de champignons – a delicious traditional Swiss autumn dish consisting of a mixture of freshly picked forest mushrooms sautéed with onion, white wine, cream and a sprinkling of chives. Get mushroom picking!
